Crypto Art Discourse 01

Dragan Ilic’s most recent work from 2021 is his new multimedia discursive artwork related to digital information and communication technologies, the presentation, distribution, and monetization of artworks, and the implied critique of the status of artists fees and royalties in the artworld, and especially so to the related digital phenomena of Crypto Art and NFTs.

Discourse 01 consists of a neo-conceptual art action that is executed in the medium of photography (poster sized photographs or digital prints). The two images are phases of the artist’s performative art-action with his assemblage art object consisting of a cell phone adorned and embellished with metal coins and medals on one side, and with photographic images from his artworks, on the other, which he juxtaposes, cross-referencing them symbolically.

Crypto Art Discourse 02

A complex multimedia discursive artwork related to digital information technologies, the presentation, distribution, and monetization of artworks, a critique of the status of artists fees and royalties, with indirect reference to the related phenomena of marketing art in digital environments, the phenomena of Crypto Art and NFTs, as well as to the general issues of the value of art, artistic endeavor, and fair compensation for artists. Dragan Ilic’s naked body indirectly symbolizes the position and vulnerability of artists in the digital marketplace.

Crypto Art Discourse # 02 is realized as a performative art action that is presented in six images where the artist interacts with and symbolically rotates his specially embellished assemblage art object, cum ubiquitous mobile telephone. The artwork is presented as a series of digital photographs, a digital art relief, and as a GIF/Flash animation to be later “minted” and auctioned as an NFT.
